“There is a huge aspect of performing whatever job is necessary here at Professional Hearing Services. Sometimes that means helping patients maintain their hearing aids, sometimes offering coffee to people before their appointments, sometimes talking through the difficulties that come with deteriorating hearing. But I am always the first person the patients meet and speak with, and often I am the one they share their overall feelings about the process: for example the excitement over new gadgets or nervousness over big changes.
Funnily enough I have come to understand how well this job complements my mission at Distress Centers too; my colleagues and I are in a unique position that allows us to help people maintain their social connections and rebuild relationships. No one deserves to feel isolated, and I am always delighted when a patient reports that our services have allowed them much higher quality interactions with their families, friends, co-workers and friendly strangers.
